Cysgodion I - ( Shadows
I ) Etching with aquatint. The tonal range in Cysgodion I is created by using an aquatint, where resin is distributed onto the plate, melted and then etched. this allows a wide range of tone to be created in a similar manner to building up washes in a watercolour painting. |

| Cysgodion II -
( Shadows II ) Hard Ground etching The method used in Cysgodion II is quite different, the tone being built up using a variety of marks drawn directly into the hard ground. The deepest blacks are composed of very fine crosshatching. |
